Lapsuuden kodissani ei ollut koiria vanhempieni allergian vuoksi. Tämä ei kuitenkaan estänyt koiraharrastukseni alkua jo nuorena sillä olihan sitä naapureiden sekä sukulaisten koirat joiden kanssa viettää aikaa. Tämä intohimo eläimiin kantoi lopulta eläinalan opintoihin; ensin eläintenhoitajaksi jonka jälkeen kävin opiskelemassa myös klinikkaeläinhoitajan ammattitutkintoa varten.

Ensimmäinen oma rotukoira minulle tuli vuonna 2010 ihastuessani whippet rotuun täysin nähdessäni näitä näyttelyissä. Nämä pienet ja kauniin sulavat koirat veivät sydämeni siltä istumalta ja pitihän se oma saada. Löysinkin sitten muutaman mutkan kautta whippet pentueen jota lähdimmekin katsomaan. Tämä matka oli monella tapaa ikimuistoinen kera navigaattorin joka ei osannut ohjeistaa kuin pellolle (ja sinnekin huonosti) sekä kotiin unohtuneiden pannan ja hihnan :D Kotiin lähdimmekin kera pennun jollaista en olisi ikinä osannut kuvitellakaan.

Tämän whippetin kanssa sitten tutustuimme seuraavana vuonna näyttelymaailmaan josta onkin tullut hyvin suuri osa minua ja joissa käymme suhteellisen ahkeraan. Tämä harrastus on tuonut mukanaan todella ihania ihmisiä joista eräänä kennel Qalb Elassad:in Pia Chaoukin. Kiitos hänen, tutustuin vähintään yhtä valloittavaan, joskin hieman haasteelliseen rotuun nimeltä sloughi.

Sloughi rotuna hurmasi minut täysin. Itsepäinen luonne ja omaa perhettä rakastava koira joka haluaa osallistua perheen elämään kaikessa. Myös kaunis ulkonäkö helpotti rotuvalintaa. Nämä pienet-suuret koirat keksivät kaikkea mahdollista, eikä arki rodun kanssa ole ollut tylsää. Kun on vaikea päivä voi olla varma, että kohta löytyy ruskea ja lämmin pää vierestä joka lohduttaa. Omani on kuin ymmärtäisi kaiken mitä mielessä pyörii ja osaa juuri oikeaan aikaan tehdä oikeat asiat.

Koiriemme kanssa harrastetaan pääsääntöisesti kotonaolon lisäksi näyttelyitä Suomessa ja ulkomailla. Whippetimme menetimme kesän alussa 2023, eikä toista rodun edustajaa ole voitu surun vuoksi taloon ottaa. Laumamme on myös kokenut hieman muutoksia tämän jälkeen ja perheessä asustaa nyt kahden sloughin lisäksi kaksi manchesterinterrieriä sekä italianvinttikoira. Sotku on tätä kirjoittaessa jo reilu 12 vuotias ja Fatu täyttää syksyllä 8, joten heistä ei pentuja enää tule. Katse kohdistuukin tämän osalta nuorempaan sukupolveen.

Vinttikoirat tyyppeinä tuntuvat aivan eniten omalta ja niitä meillä kotona tulee varmasti olemaan jatkossakin. Se, jatkanko sloughien kanssa tulevaisuudessa miten, riippuu varmasti yhteistyöstä, linjoista ja yksilöistä. Omalle kohdalle sattui todella helpot ja sosiaaliset yksilöt ja vaikka nämä piirteet eivät olisikaan aivan rotumääritelmän mukaisia, ovat ne piirteitä joita arvostan tässä yhteiskunnassa elävissä koirissa. Manssit ovat myös oma lukunsa. Kotona asuvat yksilöt ovat kuin yö ja päivä, mutta molemmista löytyy piirteitä jotka miellyttävän hyvin paljon.

Kasvattajan peruskurssin kävin Helsingissä 2012 keväällä ja kennelnimen sain kesällä 2015. Jalostusneuvojan peruskurssin kävin syksyllä 2016.

My childhood home didn't have any dogs because of my parents allergy. This didn't stop my dog hobby when I was young, there were neighbours and relatives with dogs with which I could spend time with. This passion towards animals led me to study animals; first to animal keeper after which I studied for animalnurse qualification.

My first registered dog came to me 2010 when I felled in love with a whippet when I saw them at a dog show. These small and beautifully smooth dogs took my heart on the spot and of course I had to get one. Throug the many bends I found a whippet litter which we went to look at. This trip was something to remember with a navigator which guided us to the field (thither poorly) and a lead and a colar which we had left home :D Back home we left with a puppy I never though I would ever have.

With this whippet I got to know the dog show world which have become a big part of my life and where we go quit alot during the year. This hobby has brought some of the best people to my life, of which one of them is my first sloughis breeder, kennel Qalb Elassads Pia Chaouki. Thanks to her, I got to know this wonderful, but a bit challenging breed.

Sloughi as a breed charmed me totally. Stubborn character and a dog who loves their family and which wants to get involved in everything you do in your life. Also the beautiful looks helped the breed selection. These big-small dogs will come up with all the possible you can think of and everyday with these is never boring. When I'm having a bad day, I can be sure that there is soon a brown and warm conforting me. Sometimes my own is like a second mind for me, he knows what to do at the right time.

Mostly our hobbies with our dogs are shows in Finland and abroad, not forgetting just relaxing at home.We lost our Whippet at the beginning of the summer of 2023, and due to grief, we have not been able to take another representative of the breed into the house. Our pack has also experienced some changes since then, and in addition to two Sloughis, the family now includes two Manchester Terriers and an Italian Greyhound. At the time of writing, Sotku is already a good 12 years old and Fatu will turn 8 in the fall, so they will not have any puppies frim them. In this regard, we are looking at the younger generation.

As a type, sighthounds feel like the perfect fit for me, and we will certainly continue to have them at home in the future. How I proceed with Sloughis down the line will depend on collaboration, bloodlines, and the specific dogs themselves. I happened to get exceptionally easy-going and sociable individuals; even if these traits don't align perfectly with the breed standard, they are qualities I value in dogs living in our society. The manchesters are a breed apart, too. The ones living at home are like night and day, yet both possess traits that I find very appealing.

I went to the breeder course spring 2012 and got my kennel name summer 2015. I participated in a breeding advicers course at fall 2016.
